Pointfest

10 a.m., Saturday, May 23. Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, 14141

Because punk cockroaches the Offspring are headlining Pointfest, it might be tempting to think that the all-day festival is nodding back to the '90s — an era when cred-laden bands such as the Stone Roses, Pulp and Echo & the Bunnymen played the event. But like the Pointfests from back in the day, this year's version is celebrating the favorites of the radio station's modern, youthful listeners. Along with 'fest veterans Ludo, Sick Puppies and the Used, highlights include punkish power-poppers Taking Back Sunday, mad-scientist synthpunks Shiny Toy Guns, throwback rockers the Parlor Mob and local hard rockers Cavo, who recently signed to Reprise Records and have found some radio success with the song "Champagne."
