New friends are being made every day

One of the most notable benefits of the DIY craft movement has been the population explosion of stuffed animals beyond the pale. The knitters and felters and stitch witches have sublime craziness in their brains, and it comes out in the form of cotton-candy pink polyhedrons, be-antlered gumdrops, hulking beasts with winsome eyes, and a thousand other forms large and small and marvelous. This biological diversity is celebrated in Crammed Organisms, a show of hand-crafted creatures created by artists both local and international. Crammed Organisms opens with a free public reception from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Star Clipper Comics (6392 Delmar Avenue, University City), and then a new version of the show opens in a new space every Friday: Cranky Yellow (June 13), Subterranean Books (June 20) and Apop Records (June 27). All of the creatures are available for purchase, but you can’t take ’em home until the show is over. For more information, visit www.crammedorganisms.com.
