Paws for a Cause

There's a term for the type of person who habitually carries around photos of their cat: Crazy Cat Person. But that's a slur used by those sad unfortunates who have yet to meet my awesome cats, Phoenix and Lucky (and the parrot-wing wearin' Butter). Cat people, you see, don't think they're better than other people — they know they're better. If we weren't better, the cats wouldn't stick around. It's science, folks. Tonight the fineness of felines is feted from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Kitty Kitty Art Party at Cranky Yellow Publishing (2847 Cherokee Street; www.crankyyellow.com). Local artist Melissa Debus shows exhibits her painterly cat collages (catllages), and entertainment is provided by the Circus Cats of Chicago. The latter is a troupe of domestic cats who perform tricks and play in a band, the Rock Cats. Seriously. Cats have all sorts of talents you'd never suspect, because they don't share them with just anybody. But if you're willing to pay $10 to attend tonight's show, the CCoC will know that you're their kind of people — cat people — because proceeds benefit Tenth Life Cat Rescue, a group that aids street cats in need of medical attention.
