Paintings Remixed

by

The nation's basements and thrift stores are filled with mass produced, assembly line "sofa art," the kind of bland, inoffensive paintings that adorn the walls of hotel rooms and furniture retailers to serve as aesthetic background noise. If you're of the opinion that the Bob Ross-esque landscape sitting up in mom's attic would look a lot better with a hot-pink, multi-tentacled, top-hat-wearing Cthulhu dropped into the setting, then you'll want to attend On The Shoulders Of..., the new exhibition at Hoffman LaChance Contemporary (2713 Sutton Boulevard, Maplewood; 314-960-5322 or www.hoffmanlachancefineart.com). Forty artists display paintings, photos and sculpture that they transformed by applying their own distinctive aesthetic, elevating the objects from barely noticed to one of a kind works of art. On The Shoulders Of... opens with a free public reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, March 8. The show remains up through Saturday, March 30, and the gallery is open on Friday and Saturday.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: March 8. Continues through March 30, 2013
