Out on the Tiles

Whoever thinks Scrabble is a civilized parlor game obviously hasn't played with true enthusiasts. Replace "civilized parlor game" with "tile-slapping bloodsport" and you'll be a little bit closer. Is there anything more satisfying than that do-or-die moment when you plonk down SQUIFFY (seriously, look it up) on a triple-word score? Good heavens: getting the vapors just thinking about it. If you, too, have strong feelings for Alfred Mosher Butt's finest creation, you won't want to miss Scrabble Mania! tonight at Chesterfield Arts (444 Chesterfield Center, Chesterfield). Bring along your friends for an evening of good-natured word warring. In addition to the many Scrabble boards at which to demonstrate your skillz (that'd be worth 19 points if it were a real word), there are other quick word games, prizes and a cash bar. The evening of logophilic fun begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for individuals or $40 for a table of four, and you must make reservations in advance. Call 636-519-1955 or e-mail [email protected] to reserve a seat. All proceeds from Scrabble Mania! benefit the Chesterfield Writers Guild; all glory from playing JAZZILY on the last round benefits you, word-dawg.
