Our Anniversary

To paraphrase an antique rock & roll lyric: Have you heard the news? There's good countin' tonight. The city of St. Louis turns 250 years old this month, and the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org) celebrates the big birthday with some numbers games. Its massive, 6,000-square-foot commemorative exhibition 250 in 250: 50 People, 50 Places, 50 Moments, 50 Images, 50 Objects. You'll notice those five components equal 250 when added together, and they make for a handy organizing principle. The exhibit's curators wanted to tell our city's story through these key subgroups to try and capture just some of St. Louis' breadth, depth and diversity. With so much ground to cover and so many historical trails to walk down, this will be an exhibit you'll want to return to for repeat visits. 250 in 250 opens at 1 p.m. Friday, February 14, and remains up through Sunday, February 15, 2015. The museum is open daily, and admission is free.
