On the Road for 70 Years

It's difficult to believe it's been 70 years since The Wizard of Oz first took audiences on the long strange trip down the yellow brick road. Cinematography may have come a long way in the intervening years, but the story of Dorothy (and her little dog, too) remains as beloved today as ever. In honor of the anniversary, Oz gets the 21st-century treatment, screening in high definition for one night only in theaters nationwide. Robert Osborne, host of Turner Classic Movies, will present information about the movie, which received five Oscar nods, including best picture, and won the awards for best song and best original score. The Wizard of Oz screens at 7 p.m. tonight at four area theaters, including the AMC Esquire 7 (6706 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights; 314-781-9017).
