Old 97's

Old 97's frontman Rhett Miller has the chiseled good looks of an actor. (The band's cameo in the Hollywood blockbuster The Break-Up only confirms that fact.) However, over the past fourteen years, the band has established itself as one of alt-country's most successful acts. 2005's Rhino compilation Hit By A Train: The Best of the Old 97's shows how versatile the group is, whether Miller is plaintively pining "Jagged" or screaming his guts out on an emphatic rendition of "Barrier Reef." If you can get to the front of the crowd during an Old 97's show — the band's known for brazen live performances — it's something you'll never forget. Trust us, you'll get the black-and-blue marks from the people you elbowed past to prove it.
