OK? It’s Muny-ficent!

These days, you need a giant helicopter to land onstage or freakish legs-detached-from-body dancing to have a buzz-generating musical. When Rodgers & Hammerstein first paired up for their musical Oklahoma!, dramatic arc and conflict was “a farm girl almost ruins her life by attending a church social with the wrong fella.” Sure, a lot happens around that social, and Oklahoma! is historically significant for its innovative narrative structure and the dream ballet sequence, but it's the tunes that really shine. If you and yours aren't singing “Surrey with the Fringe on Top” all the way home, then “Pore Jud Is Daid!” Besides, ain't nothin' finer than the Muny in the muggy Midwest! Shows start at 8:15 p.m. every night Monday through Sunday (June 18 through 24) at the magnificent Muny in Forest Park (314-361-1900 or www.muny.org). Tickets are $9 to $62.
