Nun of the Above

Evil is afoot in Mother Superior's convent. Her sister nuns are experiencing a rabid sexual hysteria, a young postulant is being blessed by strange visions, and Mother Superior's former beau has re-entered her life and is now trying to re-enter her, as well. The cherry on this unholy sundae is the malevolent monk who keeps nibbling around the edges of all these circumstances -- is he behind it all? Ah, well; the turmoil doesn't stop the nuns from singing their hearts out and striving to keep social mores firmly ensconced in the Medieval period. Charles Busch's The Divine Sister is a bawdy blasphemy of a comedy that pays tribute to and satirizes the Hollywood stereotypes of nuns. And if the Charles Busch imprimatur is not enough to warn you, be aware that Mother Superior is played by a man.
