Who says St. Louis doesn't get the big concerts? An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin, the cabaret show starring the two people in the title, is what one might call a juggernaut of entertainment. Ms. LuPone and Mr. Patinkin have awards and plaudits galore for their work onstage, they've each starred in movies and television specials, they've created roles and re-created roles — they're stars of a grand magnitude. And for one night only, they perform at the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.fabulousfox.com) as guests of Cabaret St. Louis. LuPone's voice is big in the Broadway sense, a powerful instrument that conveys emotion to the back of the house and the bottom of the heart. Patinkin is no slouch either, possessing a heroic tenor capable of portraying the nobility and fragility of the human spirit. Together they put on a show that draws heavily from Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim's respective works, with a few surprises thrown in as well. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $45 to $78.
