Not Intergalactic, But Planetary

It likely comes as no big surprise that animals are super into Earth Day. After all, they dwell outdoors, sans formal dwellings, and they pride themselves on being pretty in tune with their habitat. (Let's be honest; they have to be.) Just like their brethren in the wild, the Saint Louis Zoo's creatures want to get involved with the Earth Day action around the globe, as well as with the St. Louis Earth Day Festival in Forest Park, so they're hosting Earth Day: Party for the Planet in their portion of the park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. At this earthly extravaganza, not only can you have a look at some celebrating animals -- including Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs, giant tortoises, lions and gorillas -- but you also can learn about them, thanks to talks hosted by their keepers. Plus, you can make crafts and take part in various activities as you learn, all in honor of this spinning sphere we call home. Admission to the Saint Louis Zoo's Earth Day party is free; admission to the Children's Zoo is $4. For keeper-talk times and more information, visit
