New! Flat! Filey!

If you haven't visited the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (3750 Washington Boulevard; or 314-535-4660) to examine the frequently changing Selections from the Contemporary's Flat Files, you're already two exhibitions behind everybody else. The collection of smaller-size works on paper created by Missouri- and Illinois-based artists is part of a Contemporary initiative to build a body of work by known and emerging artists; because the Contemporary has a standing invitation to the art community to submit work, the flat files are always in flux, constantly growing. To accommodate this growth, the Contemporary rotates the art on display. The latest rotation opens this evening with a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. and comes down on Sunday, August 20. But if you can't make it in that span (what, you're too busy to see a living, multiplying art exhibit?), don't worry; all the works in the Flat Files are part of the Contemporary's permanent collection. But they're actually out right now, so no excuses — get over there.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 10. Continues through Aug. 20
