Nevermore

Even as we celebrate the bicentennial of Edgar Allan Poe's birth this year, the Baltimore Poe House & Museum recently laid the author to rest — again. See, his first funeral wasn't so well attended (only about ten people came out because the writer's death wasn't announced), and people today still want to pay their respects properly. You, too, can pay tribute to the author of The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart a little closer to home by heading over to the Lemp Mansion (3322 DeMenil Place; 314-664-8024 or www.lempmansion.com) at 7 p.m. There, Anne Louise Williams reads some of Poe's works in order to get you in the Halloween spirit. And who knows? Maybe one of the beyond-the-grave Lemps will throw wide a window and allow a talking raven into the free event. Stranger things have happened at the mansion, we're sure, and that definitely would be festive — in a very creepy way, of course (almost as creepy as that funeral redo probably was! Eeeps!).
