Movies for Women

And everyone else, too

As far as Ms. Day is concerned, Lifetime is the best channel on cable: so many movies about crimes against women, starring all of her favorite TV actors (Tiffani Thiessen, Mariska Hargitay, Marcia Gay Harden, et al.), and so much time on the weekend to watch these two-hour cautionary tales. If Day had her druthers, she would view made-for-TV movies like The Party Never Stops (a warning about college binge-drinking) and A Life Interrupted on the big screen. Thanks to Women’s Support and Community Services, she’ll get her chance, when the latter is screened for free at a premiere event at 7 p.m. at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue). A Life Interrupted, which is based on a true story, features Lea Thompson as Debbie Smith, a woman who was sexually assaulted and then became the driving force behind legislation to ensure the backlog of DNA rape kits would be processed, thereby helping victimized women across the country — just as WSCS helps women in our area.
