Monty Are I

7 p.m. Tuesday, December 19. Creepy Crawl (3524 Washington Boulevard).

Monty Are I is a self-described "action rock" band from Providence, Rhode Island, and one of the inaugural signings to Stolen Transmission, a label run by former Spin editor Sarah "Ultragrrrl" Lewitinn. Musically, the band combines Warped Tour-approved pop punk with R&B-style vocals and orchestral samples — and while this may seem like a curious combination on paper, the choruses on songs such as "Dublin Waltz" are so massive that, trust us, it makes sense. The band's debut, Wall Of People, certainly isn't reinventing the wheel, but by combining pop-punk with epic power ballads on tracks such as "In This Legacy," MAI is carving out a unique niche within the pop community — which, come to think of it, is more than we can say for most of its peers.
