Tel Aviv garage rockers Monotonix generated a ton of buzz a couple of years ago after they released their first EP and played a string of U.S. shows that left audiences sweaty, bruised and totally enthralled. Its 2009 full-length debut, Where Were You When It Happened?, couldn't quite capture this frenzied spirit, even though its live sets remained turbulent, amped-up affairs. The trio recorded its second album, Not Yet, with Steve Albini, and the results sound a lot like the Stooges: loud, confrontational and buzzing with distortion. The album comes out next month, but you can hear a bunch of the new songs — most of which clock in at an economical three minutes — this week onstage, which is still the best way to experience Monotonix.
