In their 2005 anthem, "Dead Ramones," Modern Life Is War declared, "We're not pretty and we're not rich/We're gonna have to fucking work for it." And work for it they do: Since the release of 2005's Witness, the Iowa quintet has toured almost nonstop to bring its brand of passionate hardcore to towns across the globe — from Iceland and Finland to nearly all points stateside. In fact, all of this time in the van has meant that even with only two releases to its name, the band has gained a major hold for the Midwest in the traditionally coastally ruled hardcore scene. At MLIW's Lemp show with Spanish Bombs, expect moshing, sing-alongs to tales of working-class disillusionment and a band working for it like there's no tomorrow.
