The candied pleasure of artifice has finally lost its savor. All of the manufactured, pre-packaged, focus-grouped and market-tested entertainment has passed the time well enough, but it's also rotted teeth and sickened souls. We are bloated and grotesque, made so by our steady diet of saccharine starlets and artificially inflated idols. Short of killing the kingmakers, we can only place our hope in unadulterated genius. The prescription for spiritual health is simple: Bask in the radiance of Mozart, and let the power of his brilliance melt the accreted lard off your beleaguered soul. The Salzburg Chamber Soloists perform, with pianist Andreas Klein, the music of the Viennese wonder. There are no backing tracks; there are no video projections; there are no marketing tie-ins or producer's tricks. There are only the hands and hearts of a corps of dedicated musicians, moved to glory by the passion of Mozart's imagination. Your journey toward health begins at 8 p.m. at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or www.touhill.org). Tickets are $18 to $23.
