Mixed Blessings

St. Louis was once the brick-making capital of the Midwest, but that industry is long gone. But St. Louis is not a city without industry — we're well stocked with independent comic-book artists, for example, who continue to make comics that are fun, idiosyncratic, funny and much more personal than the ones you find in your daily paper. Urchin Collective is an affiliation of local comic creators who have banded together to put out two anthologies of the group's work. And tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at Stone Spiral Coffee and Curios (2500 Sutton Boulevard, Maplewood; 314-335-7388), Urchin Collective releases their new book, Mixed Feelings 3. Featured artists included Matt and Jeanie Bryan, Aaron James Ford, Corey Tyson and personal favorite Kevin Wolf, creator of the long-running Pangaea. Admission is free, and refreshments and door prizes will be provided.
