Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church was the scene of both grief and hope when Michael Brown was laid to rest on August 25, 2014. Among the thousands attending were director/actor Spike Lee, civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, civil rights activist Al Sharpton and three White House aides. "You don't understand that Michael Brown does not want to be remembered for a riot," Sharpton said. "He wants to be remembered as the one that made America deal with how we're going to police in the United States." News cameras were not permitted inside.
Eighteen-year-old Brown was shot August 9 by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, and the ongoing investigation has ignited tension between police and those who claim that Brown was the victim of police brutality. Read our complete coverage on Michael Brown and Ferguson here.
