Menomena/Maps & Atlases

8 p.m. Thursday, March 10. The Gargoyle, 6465 Forsyth Boulevard, in the Mallinckrodt Center on the campus of Washington University.

Nine haikus inspired by Menomena. Oh, Menomena / So singular, so unique / From Portland you hail. Each record reflects / Years in collective cocoon / Songs from labored love. Patient platypus /A tortoise among the hares / Running slow, steady. Oh, Menomena / Once a three-headed rock monster / Now dwindled to two. For Brent Knopf has left / To pursue Ramona Falls / His solo project. Though winds of change blow / Rustling leaves do not erase / Triumphs of the past. Like Mines, your latest / Each track, itself a treasure / The album, your chest. In headphones, serene / But a new beast completely / Once upon a stage. Fierce, unrelenting / Much like joyous opener / Maps & Atlases.
