Walk or drive past the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis at night and you're likely to see something strangely beautiful flickering across its austere facade. This is the work of Milan-born installation artist Marco Brambilla. Part of the museum's series Street Views, Brambilla's Materialization/De-Materialization exemplifies the artist's approach to clever visual overload. In the video collage, colorful digital ripples move beyond a black field, revealing a pattern made of Star Trek characters who disappear and reappear in an infinite loop.
