With the African Film Festival finishing up on Sunday, March 28 (see "Watch a Little, Learn a Lot"), people could start getting anxious about their leisure-time enlightenment options for this week. Fear not, dear readers! Another film fest fires up on Sunday! QFest, now in its third year, highlights contemporary gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and queer cinema through Wednesday, March 31, at the Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City). Five films are screened on opening day, including Hannah Free (at 4:30 p.m.), a 2009 feature about two small-town women who maintain a relationship through the years despite many obstacles, including a marriage, and The Big Gay Musical (at 7 p.m. on Sunday and at 9:15 p.m. on Monday, March 29), which is a fun romp through the lives of a pair of gay men who are playing Adam and Steve in a new musical. All told, fourteen films will be shown throughout the fest, from documentaries to feature films (such as those mentioned). Also of note: St. Louisan Jacqui Jackson, who co-stars in Hannah Free, and the executive producer of the film, Tracy Baim, will attend the screening and conduct a post-show Q&A session. Tickets to all films cost $8 to $10; visit www.stlqfest.org for the full lineup.
