Make Your Own Fun

"There's nothing to do here" used to be the standard refrain of young St. Louisans itching for brighter lights elsewhere. Nowadays, that old charge seems hard to support. Stuff's popping everywhere — really cool stuff like the Strange Folk Festival, which takes over Community Park (401 East Fifth Street, O'Fallon, Illinois; 618-624-0139 or this Saturday and Sunday (September 26 and 27) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Strange Folk bills itself as the largest indie arts-and-crafts show in the Midwest; there'll be 125 vendors from all over the country, plus Green-centric craft activities, bands and local cuisine. Once you've seen all the handmade knit goods, toys, clothing and art, perhaps you'll be inspired to take up a new hobby — then you'll have something to do all the time.
