MAD About Dance

"The Arts" aren't referred to collectively merely to distinguish them from "The Sciences." In fact, the creative pursuits often demonstrate complementary tendencies that bind them together. For a prime example of this artistic harmony, check out the upcoming exhibit at the PHD Gallery (2300 Cherokee Street; 314-664-6644 or www.phdstl.com). In honor of the Modern American Dance Company's anniversary, the gallery presents visual artworks inspired by movement. For MADCO: 35 Years of Dance Celebrated Through Visual Art, artists Metra Mitchell, Mark Florida, Jerry Breakstone and David Lancaster utilize ceramics, photography and painting to highlight elements of dance, evoking motion even through the stillness of their media and emphasizing points in time that might be missed in a blink during a dance concert. The exhibition opens with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 24, and your $10 donation at the door benefits MADCO. The show remains on view Thursday through Saturday until April 28.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: March 24. Continues through April 28, 2012
