Lunch & Learn

A striptease is an unexpected activity for a church event, even if it is a fundraiser. But taking clothes off is exactly what Karen Chartrand will be doing during the Victorian Luncheon at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church (7100 Morganford Road; 314-351-2628). To be fair, we would like to reiterate that this is a Victorian gathering (read "virtuous"), and people living in those chaste times were nothing if not slaves to the clothing concept of layering, so when we say that garments will be removed, rest assured that even Chartrand's neck and ankles will probably remain covered. In her presentation, Chartrand will explain each piece of her Civil War hoop-skirt costume, discuss the period's mores and offer up fashion facts. Other women and men will also be wearing period ensembles for your learning pleasure. Plus, you'll be served a modern version of food typical of the 1860s. (So no, there won't be any Cheetos.) To attend this instructional luncheon — and to have a most delightful afternoon — drop by the church at 11 a.m. Admission costs $15; call 314-544-4678 for more information.
