Ludacris

Release Therapy (Island/Def Jam)

Although the single "Money Maker" earned heavy radio play, Ludacris received more attention recently for "War with God," a fierce diss track that circulated on mixtapes and helped promote his new CD, Release Therapy. On "War," Luda lets loose with a level of emotion sorely missing from his earlier albums, which were bland affairs plagued with market-tested restraint. Therapy is still pretty tame, with fluffy album tracks mostly padding the space between current and future singles ("Girls Gone Wild" is a good bet). But when Ludacris passionately rants about his life as a blue-collar struggler on "Mouths to Feed" and "Tell It Like It Is," as well as on the still-searing "War," he finds the personality that gives this album some much-needed color.
