Love Takes Wing

Prince Siegfried is a romantic, but he's not so good with ladies. He has a duty to get married at his upcoming birthday ball, but wants to marry for love, not class obligation. He attempts to suppress his disappointment with some swan hunting, but his hand is stayed when he notices one of the swans is actually a beautiful woman. She is Odette, cursed by the evil sorcerer Rothbart to be a swan by day and a woman by night. She and Siegfried have an immediate love connection, but he must leave for his birthday ball. Matters come to a head when he fails to notice that the vaguely familiar beautiful woman at his party is not in fact Odette but Odile, the daughter of Rothbart — this revelation comes after his proposal, unfortunately. Can he make amends and break Odette's curse, or is he doomed to have a vile sorcerer as his father-in-law? Tchaikovsky's beloved ballet Swan Lake receives an all-new production thanks to Gen Horiuchi and Saint Louis Ballet. Find out if Siegfried and Odette make it after all at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday (April 9 through 11) at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or Tickets are $35 to $47.
