The course of true love runs a twisting path in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream
. Hermia and Lysander want to wed, but Hermia's father has picked Demetrius as his son-in-law. Hermia and Lysander run off to the forest to be together forever, but a very determined Demetrius follows. The arrival of Helena (who secretly loves Demetrius) seems to provide a fine solution to all problems, but the fairies who live in the wood have other ideas. A little bit of magic in the moonlight leads to everyone desiring the wrong partner, fistfights and at least one donkey-human hybrid before matters are finally put right.
