Let there Be Light

The magical element of any film – often ignored, but still key – is light. Film projectors broadcast a ray of light that carries the picture to the screen, which our eyeballs and brains then re-organize into recognizable images. Everything you see in a film is nothing more than flickering, dancing motes of light – so why not allow the light itself to be the star of the movie? Films at the Pulitzer: Light Works does exactly this. Area film makers were challenged to make short silent films in which light itself was the key player, as a nod to the Pulitzer’s current exhibition of Dan Flavin's light-art; at 8:30 p.m. tonight, these films will be projected on the exterior faces of the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts (3716 Washington Boulevard; 314-754-1815 or Admission is free, and refreshments will be served in the courtyard.
