Lazer Mountain bills itself as psychedelic punk, but with sounds this severe even a prolonged stare at the band's Web site's paisley backdrop won't prevent a bad trip. For example, about a minute into "Heat of the Moment" (not an Asia cover, much to the dismay of those looking to ride the dragon's wings), high-pitched squeaks smother the song, and then singer Nick Mielke starts screeching in a tone even more panicked than his usual yelp. His only discernible lyric is "whoo" -- but this isn't the look-at-me-I'm-drunk "whoo" that flies out of every other car window on Saturday nights, or the super-fun "whoo" that dots Weezer choruses. In this case, it's a cautionary conjunction of "boo" and "watch out, I'm a lunatic." The Moline, Illinois-based band's sporadic guitars and skittering drums enhance this claustrophobic chaos.

Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5; call 314-771-1096 for more information.
