Ladykiller

Mack the Knife is the sort of man women can't resist. He's the charismatic crime lord of Victorian London, a stone-cold killer and a philanderer — what's not to love? Polly Peachum, only child of the Beggar King, is the new Mrs. Knife, a development that enrages her parents as well as some of Mack's former lovers. He may be the prince of the underground, but can even Mack survive several scorned women, angry in-laws and the betrayal of his good friend Tiger Brown, the chief of police? Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera is a scathing commentary on capitalism and human nature, as well as a sendup of the happy ending common to musicals. The Webster Conservatory of Theatre Arts presents The Threepenny Opera at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (November 17 through 21) in the Browning Theatre at the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road; 314-968-7128). Tickets are $6 to $12.
