Knockin' on Heaven's Door

The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis' I Remember Heaven: Jim Hodges and Andy Warhol exhibition features the works of deceased Andy Warhol and living Jim Hodges, but what does this mean for gallery-goers? Well, more than 60 works, some by each man, were chosen to compare the artists' approaches to the biggest thing to come out of the twentieth century: the integration of the everyday into our collective sensibility of what art really is. New York-based Hodges works in materials ranging from latex paint to mirrors; Warhol's media varied from silkscreen to gold leaf to celebrity. One hopes the contrast between these two will move us out of Andy's era and finally make us take a look at the 21st century, where all of us are stuck. I Remember Heaven was curated by University of Missouri-St. Louis professor Susan E. Cahan; meet her and Hodges at the Contemporary (3750 Washington Boulevard) during the show's opening-weekend festivities. The free public reception on Friday runs from 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday's brunch with museum director Paul Ha happens at 11 a.m.; and the free Artist and Curator Walkthrough begins at 1 p.m. also on Saturday (January 26 and 27). See or call 314-535-4660 for more information about the exhibit and these events. The show remains up through Sunday, April 8.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 26. Continues through April 22
