Kenny Wayne Shepherd

8 p.m. Saturday, April 7. The Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard).

Paying homage to musical elders has become a rite of passage for many younger blues musicians, and that's what singer-guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd is doing with his current tour and CD/DVD release, 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads. The film documents Shepherd on a ten-day tour of the South and captures him playing with blues notables in down-home settings such as kitchens, churches, living rooms and porches. Now, Shepherd is taking his blues-roots quest on the road with a band including Stevie Ray Vaughan's former drummer Chris Layton; ex-Howlin' Wolf guitarist Hubert Sumlin; pianist Pinetop Perkins, who played with Muddy Waters; and singer/guitarists and Louisiana mainstays Buddy Fleet and Bryan Lee. Look for fireworks, funk and fellowship from this multi-generational ensemble.
