Some of us on the Riverfront Times
softball squad have a hard enough time getting solid hits with 20/20 vision — imagine trying to make contact without the benefit of eyesight. Beepball, a form of baseball for the visually impaired, helps people play the game with the use of high-pitched beeps emitted from the ball. The Saint Louis Beepbirds will defend their title at the Ultimate Saint Louis Beepball Championship
, which takes place at GCS Ballpark (Mousette Lane and Goose Lake Road, Sauget, Illinois). For a small donation, fans will have a chance to experience the sport for themselves by donning a blindfold and stepping into the batter's box. The event starts at 2 p.m., and proceeds benefit the Minds Eye Information Service, an organization that provides broadcasting and reading services for the blind and print-impaired. For more information call 618-394-6443 or visit www.mindseyeradio.org
. Admission is free.
