St. Louis illustrator John Hendrix maintains an exceptionally busy schedule. He and his collaborators have had five books published this year -- three of them in September. Hendrix hosts a double-signing of Hook's Revenge, Book 2: The Pirate Code and McToad Mows Tiny Island today at 5 p.m. at Subterranean Books (6275 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-862-6100 or www.subbooks.com). Hook's Revenge is the further adventures of Jocelyn Hook in Neverland (she's the slightly more reasonable daughter of the infamous Captain Hook) and is recommended for ages nine to twelve. McToad is the groundskeeper toad of both Big Island and Tiny Island, and his book follows him as he undertakes the journey (by truck, train, helicopter, boat and crane) to get to the smaller island; it's recommended for ages four to eight, but once you see the cover you'll be powerless to resist it regardless of your age. Admission to the signing and storytime are free.
