Jedi Mind Tricks

9 p.m. Saturday, April 3. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

Hip-hop and violence may be linked generally (and, to many, inextricably), but few groups other than Jedi Mind Tricks offer such a visceral take on bloody reality. This veteran trio from the Northeast — emcees Vinnie Paz and Jus Allah, along with beatmaker Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind — has redefined the term "hardcore" since its 1997 debut, although it's occasionally leavened the gore with detours into the spiritual and political, as on 2003's Visions of Gandhi. Now repping its own label, Enemy Soil, JMT is preparing its seventh album for 2011 release.
