Instant Library

Some assembly required

Inspired by the mechanics of paper dolls and his love of reading, Ontario-based artist Wyn Geleynse has created a whimsical paper library using heavy card stock. Kit 1A: Collected Books; Some Assembly Required represents the great books that influenced Geleynse (and his collaborator Jason Dickson); “represents” because in a two-dimensional trompe l’oeil feat, all the books are actually cut accordion-fold-style from a single piece of card stock. Geleynse’s pop-up library is on display in the front room of the Bruno David Gallery (3721 Washington Boulevard, 314-531-3030 or through Saturday, July 5. Photographer Elaine Blatt’s Natural Phenomena and Jill Downen’s Hybrida Drawings are also exhibited. All three shows open with a free public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 6. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: June 6. Continues through July 5, 2008
