Insect Inside

In fact, there are a bunch of 'em!

Nature's perfect beauty is often ignored because we see it all the time. From a bird gracefully taking flight to a hearty evergreen surviving the cold winter temperatures, the natural world is singularly stunning. Even living critters for which we typically have contempt can be considered remarkable — in the right setting. Artist Jennifer Angus provides the perfect place to rethink things when she exhibits her artwork at the Craft Alliance in Grand Center (501 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-7528 or www.craftalliance.org) — and by artwork, we mean insects. Locusts & Honey: New Work by Jennifer Angus consists of dried bugs pinned to the wall in carefully crafted, wallpaper-style patterns. When her pieces are considered as a whole, it's easier to see how symmetrically pleasing a medium the little creepy-crawlies are. Trust us. To witness Angus installing the site-specific show, drop by the Craft Alliance Sunday through Friday (January 25 to 30); the opening reception for Locusts & Honey runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on that Friday. The exhibition remains up through Sunday, May 17, and the gallery is open from Wednesday through Sunday.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 30. Continues through May 17, 2009
