Illuminating the Mysteries of India

Bring Me a Lion: an Exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art features the work of ten Indian artists in a wide range of media. And a wide range it is: Chitra Ganesh's Secrets is a comic book-style illustration that's surreal imagery recalls the underground American comics of the '70s and Raymond Pettibon's cryptically worded illustrations, while Rakhi Peswani's gauzy installation Seductive Myths of Lightness (Sightscapes of an Insomniac) features shadow-puppet forms of human figures hidden in folds of organza. It's a beautiful and evocative show. The show opens with a free public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 19, in the Cecille R. Hunt Gallery on the Webster University campus (8342 Big Bend Boulevard; 314-246-7957). Bring Me a Lion remains on display Monday through Saturday through Saturday, April 17. Admission is free.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: March 19. Continues through April 17, 2010
