Hurt So Good

The touring Hellzapoppin Sideshow bills itself with the badass tag "The Greatest Sideshow in Hell," which, if not a bit ambitious, reveals the bizarre novelty of its rock & roll circus. Traditional sideshow spectacles such as sword swallowers and vaudeville acts punctuate the freak show, and famous performer Zamora the Torture King dazzles the crowd with his wince-worthy superhuman pain threshold. His death-defying feats include lying on a bed of nails while four audience members stand on him and occupying a berth of razor sharp swords while a giant brick is crushed on his chest with a sledgehammer. Behold the magic and mayhem at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, when the Hellzapoppin Sideshow descends on St. Louis at 2720 Cherokee (2720 Cherokee Street). Tickets for this event are $8.
