Hungry to Help

Every year on the fourth Thursday of November, millions of Americans stuff themselves to the bursting point and inevitably suffer from "Post-Thanksgiving Stress Disorder" for their over-indulgence. Today you can make a preemptive strike against PTSD by getting your rump roast on the banana seat and participating in the fifth annual Cranksgiving charity ride. Hundreds of cyclists of all ages and riding levels will gather at 10 a.m. at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood) to go on a grocery shopping spree for a worthy cause. Cyclists spend $10 to $20 of their own cold hard cash at participating grocers along a pre-determined route, and then donate those foodstuffs to the Food Outreach program. It's a great way to get your holiday spirit in gear — and you'll feel guilt-free when stepping up for that third helping of mashed potatoes come Thanksgiving.
