How Sweet It Is

From sap to syrup

Let's face it: Trees are awesome. Not only do they provide shade in the summer months, brightly colored leaves for school children's collages in the fall and oxygen pretty much all the time — but they also make maple syrup! How cool is that! Of course, not every tree is a maple, but the Missouri Department of Conservation's Rockwoods Reservation (2751 Glencoe Road, Wildwood; 636-458-2236 or just happens to have enough maples to host the free Maple Sugar Festival. Held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this sweet party shows us how Native Americans harvested the sap from these trees and how this sap is transformed into maple syrup. Plus, we'll get to taste some syrup! Delicious!
