Hot for Scots

by

694 years ago, the Declaration of Arbroath was promulgated, announcing Scotland's status as an independent nation. Once again, Scots are currently debating whether to declare their independence. What is certain is that at least 6 million Americans claim Scottish heritage. If you're one of those fortunate millions, or just love a stiff drink and a soft kilt, you'll head to Missouri Tartan Day in Frontier Park (500 South Riverside Drive, St. Charles; www.motartanday.com) to celebrate the lovely accent, border collies and fine Wee Heavy ales of Scotland. Everything Scottish is present, including traditional pipe bands, Highland dancers, demonstrations on wool spinning, Scottish fighting techniques and, of course, food and drink. Missouri Tartan Day is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (April 4 through 6). Admission is free.
Fri., April 4, 5-10 p.m.; Sat., April 5, 9:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sun., April 6, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 2014
