Danny Black, guitarist/singer of Healthy White Baby, might not have a knack for naming bands — his prior one was questionably titled The Blacks — but he can craft solid blues-rock tales of loss, rejection and redemption that are made all the more convincing by his sweetly weathered voice. In fact, his raspy tone reveals a kind but wayward soul who's probably been burned more times than he deserves. That detail, along with the fact that Healthy White Baby's moniker actually comes from the triumphant cinematic ode to white-trash America, Raising Arizona, should be more than enough to forgive the name.
