Har Mar Superstar

9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

In the year 2000, Sean Tillmann entered a cocoon spun from the internal wires of rusted drum machines and emerged as a Sam Kinison-meets-Prince butterfly named Har Mar Superstar. The oft-aped progenitor of laptop shock rock, Tillmann is a passionate performer whose songcraft sharpens the further it strays from shtick-laden irony. His talent is unmistakable; he ghost-writes tunes for Jennifer Lopez and Kelly Osbourne, and originally pitched Har Mar's current single, "Tall Boy," to Britney Spears. The track is a clever slice of double-entendre R&B in which Tillmann bares his soul (and clothing) to make you sweat, sweat till you can't sweat no more. At some St. Louis shows, the half-naked dude dancing confrontationally gets tazed. At this one, he's the entertainment.
