Now let's head downtown. Of course, all manner of clubs from Dante's to Lafayette Pub to Kyo are hosting all manner of parties, but we're thinking the Sordid Halloween Party from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at City Hall (1200 Market Street) is going to be off the chain(saw). Costumes are a must, and even though the ticket price is a bit steep ($50 to $75), proceeds from the party go to two great causes (Food Outreach and Doorways) and you get two drink tickets. And Delta Burke is scheduled to make an appearance. To buy a ticket and for more information, visit www.halloweenstl.com.
If you don't fancy the whole costume thing, head to Portabella in Clayton (15 North Central Avenue; 314-725-6588 or www.portabellarestaurant.com). There, you can get into the spirit without having to wear anything too silly during the Portabella Pumpkin-Carving Contest. All you have to bring is a pumpkin and your creative plan knives to borrow, chili and cider are all free. The contest happens from 4 to 6 p.m., there's a cash bar, and kids are welcome.
