Originally formed in the early '90s around San Diego turntablist DJ Greyboy, the Greyboy Allstars
prospered even after the departure of their band's namesake, delivering a mixture of funk, jazz and soul that made them a popular attraction on the jam-band circuit for nearly a decade before the rest of the band members eventually went their separate ways. Now the Allstars have reunited with a new CD, Whatever Happened to Television
, and are back on tour (albeit still without Greyboy himself, though he does serve as the album's co-producer). During their hiatus, the various band members developed solo careers and explored other collaborations, and Television
reflects that growth, emphasizing song structure and tight ensemble playing while retaining the group's trademark funky flavor.
