Green Tea and Greenery

Some festivals, like the ill-conceived Annual Celebration of the Circular Saw or the ill-timed Midsummer GravyFest, just don't have staying power. Others, like Chinese Culture Days at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard), are so delightful that they grow larger and more impressive with each iteration. Now in its fifteenth year, this celebration of China's history, food and art is as fun as it is educational. The lovely Grigg Nanjing Friendship garden provides the perfect backdrop for two full days (Saturday and Sunday, May 15 and 16) of performances and pageantry. Visitors can sample Chinese cuisine and teas, as well as partake in the meditative, healthful tradition of t'ai ji. The festival lasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days; garden grounds open at 9 a.m. Ticket prices range from $5 to $12, and children (ages three through twelve) of Garden members are granted free admission.
